extra tread for snow

i am going to add 4 '' wide winter kit type belt to my adair tracks for deeper snow. any advantages etc. to putting 2'' on each side or is 4'' on the outside just as good ? will be using 1'' x 1'' alum. angle bolted to the existing tracks. thanks, johnboy va.
