    Hi everyone,

I just aquired my first 6x6. It is an early attex 72-75 with a twin JLO (not sure what size, can't find a model#). Overall, It is in pretty good shape, but it has been sitting for 20 years and needs to be gone through completely to get it going!!
I am sure I will have lots of questions as I start to restore this machine, so here goes. I need to get new tires and rims, I am going to make my own adapter plates to go to 5 lugs. Should I stick with the Chevron style tire or something like the Goodyear Rawhides. I will be using this for all around use mud, water, fields and dirt roads. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Brad

Since you are getting new rims, I would highly suggest some of the rims that member MattO sells...they are 9" rims and this will give you the option of 25" tires, provided they will fit on your Attex??? If they will fit (someone here will know), the 25" tall tires ride a whole lot better than 22"...
      Hammers should have warning labels.

i doubt 25s will fit. the 22s i have on my attex project only have 1/2" clearance to the body

Oh...well it was worth a try....BTW, I have some 22" Kenda Bearclaws on 8" rims I would let go cheap, but they do not swim.......

            Thanks everyone for the feedback.

rdr, I like the Goodyears, do they provide good enough floatation?

              Hey Brad,

Your flotation will be determined by the volume of water that the tire displaces...so any two tires that are equal in size, should provide equal flotation.

Goodyear's are an excellent choice..any tire discussion always comes back to the Rawhide...they do everything well. Swim well, ride well, mud well, priced well. You may find a tire that does one thing better than a Rawhide, but not in all areas.

                      Hey Brad,

                      Rawhide III...

As far as buying them, search around, Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Accessories by BikeBandit.com used to have the best prices. Check www.tiresunlimited.com also. When you are buying tires, also don't forget to figure in the shipping...I have seen some places run free shipping specials with the purchase of 4 or more tires.

You might also PM the great one...JPSwift, about where to find the best deal. JP seems to have an uncanny ability to find the lowest prices on everything.

You mentioned that you needed rims also?? Or are you going to use your stock ones?? If you have to buy new ones, MattO has good prices for a good product. The downside with your vehicle is that if you are limited to 22" tires, he only sells 9" rims. Which would mean you would have 1" less of sidewall on the tire, which equals bumpier ride. On the plus side, you aren't going to spin a tire off of a MattO rim...

                          Hey boncrshr,

Thanks for the info. Tires unlimited had a pretty good price. I will check out Bike bandit.

As far as rims, I need to buy new ones. The ones on the machine are pretty much toast. TU was selling the 5 lug white standard steel rim at a good price. I'm going to look around a little more this afternoon before I order.

                          Thanks again for your help.

                          Brad

Did not mean to steal your thunder on this thread....I was just bored/lonely for internet conversation this morning as the early morning posters dropped the ball today. Did I leave anything out??
