Channel tracks!!

Hey everyone ,

I have a 2004 conquest with channel tracks
Recently took it into the bush to set some bear baits, love the traction ect

One thing that I didn't like is the fact that my Argo seems to wonder badly!! It will follow old ruts, old snowmobile tracks ect. Real bad actually

Has anyone else had this with the channel tracks?

I setup my tires in the order that was recommended ( and everything is equal for pressures from side to side) and I am not running tuners.
Replaced all my bearings, chains ect.

Seems to wonder a lot and I am constantly pulling levers to straighten it out.

Is it because of the design of over the wheel ? U basically have to sink in a bit for sides of the track to touch so could that be the reason?

all machines will follow ruts. Even cars and trucks will follow shallow ruts on the highway that have been grooved out by studded tires. Sometimes you don't even need to steer, the machine will track right along with the ruts down the trail. The benefit of the channel style track is that in rutted scenarios the guides remain stable, and there is nothing outboard of the tire to get leveraged around. Other track styles can have the ground-level portion of their track leveraged around, and this will also cause the guide "tips" to be leveraged around as well, causing a variety of problems. Luckily, these conditions can be avoided for the most part, and most guys running alternative track styles know how to pay careful attention to what their track is doing.

Yes I know tires follow ruts but my buddy has the same machine with plastic 18" tracks and it's ten times better on a trail with ruts.
I haven't been able to try his in the mud/slushy snow like I was in the other day.

that's a new one for me, I've never heard a single positive thing about plastic supertracks in the ruts.

This is just as simple as the plastic tracks have a wider initial ground contact patch that allows them to span narrow ruts. If the track can span the rut it will not pull, if it cannot, it can get sucked into the rut. When you get the plastic tracks stuck in a rut try to turn and see how that works out, the Chanels will do it with ease. CRR, hi from your nabour from the North
