  • Max II Track Install Q&A Help

I'm preparing to install Factory Rubber 15" Tracks on my 93 Max II, 18HP, tube axles. I have the entire kit coming, cages, rails, etc.

I just read in a old post that it is recommended that I remove the front Axle drive chains for improved performance? As I am new to this and I get a lot of information from reading on this sight, I just stumbled across this info.

Also I need direction on how to install everything? I saw that I could find this in the Max II chassis manual??? If so can someone email me a copy or cage and rail installation instructions?

Also read take off the middle tire and deflate the front and back using a shop vac over the air valve to deflate tires. then install tracks, middle tire and inflate?

I want to do it right the first time.. Thx Mike

Congratulations on picking up some tracks for your machine. Removing the front chains is recommended as you stated, so I would do that.

There is a track installation manual in the Max section of the Manuals area. Go to the very bottom of this page and click on "Manuals". Then go to the Max section and it's there. That should help out a good bit as well.

      Rubber Track Kit

I don't want to disappoint you, but if the year of your machine (1993) is correct, then there will be some issues installing and using this kit. The 15" solid rubber snowmobile type track was intended to be used on late 1990s and up machines. The earlier machines used the steel cleat track that was connected by rubber belting.

Possible issues include the bearing cage bolt pattern, exhaust clearance, and axle/flange strength.

maxatvs.com also has the instructions for the track kit posted under "historical files archive"

Great information and thank you for the help. Spoke with Matt at Muddox and he told me what to look for with respect to the functionality of the kit and the cage bolt pattern etc. Why do I feel like I'm working on a regular car? Every time I turn around, I'm dropping a few hundred bucks... Ok, no more Wine... Mike :-)
