buzz, i'm just curious.... the grousers for chanel tracks look to be steel channel. are the pressed in a stamping machine to get that shape ? also i finished adding the rubber belting on both sides of the grousers on my adair max 2 shackle tracks. i can't believe how much smoother and quieter they are. i did still leave all the shackles in. plus now the tracks are 18 '' wide. johnboy va.

Yes johnboy, I stamp the steel channel so that each one is the same. Nice work on your track mods. I'm always impressed by your problem solving skills and stick-to-it-ness. Having a good idea is one thing but actually doing it and testing it is quite another. I know you've spent lots of time trying out different things on your machine and tracks. Look forward to seeing it

thanks buzz, for me i get excited about the results i expect will take place and can't wait to see them manifest. the key is to use the discipline to take the time and do it right to get those results even if it takes some trial and error. there are 30 grousers on each track, so i had to cut 120 pieces of the angle, drill the holes in each one, bolt to each grouser and then bolt the rubber to each angle. but the first ride showed it was worth all the work. my next project is to possibly changed the drive system from chains to shaft drive. the only 2 chains would be the t20 mains driving the system. research first !! johnboy

I don't own a set of channels but if I could afford a set right now I would love to try them out.for any americans who want to buy a set, your dollar is about 30 cents higher then ours and that goes a long way.marcel quoted me a decent price in cdn funds. American funds would be at least 600 bux cheaper.and no I'm not a chanel track salesman.lol

I would like to thank you folks for the input on the channel tracks and that is most likely the route I will go when I get tracks. I do value the opinion of all the members of the forum and hold you folks responsible for my obsession with amphibious vehicles. They are both practical and fun, mostly fun and we should try to keep it that way. I know we are very passionate about our machines and how we set them up and personalize them but try to enjoy and appreciate the views of our community.

Beagle man you asked about the chanel tracks in willows, I just purchased a set for my older machine 1984 6 IC , and the chanels have been great on this machine. It is a lower powered machine, 17 horse to be precise, the first time i hit the willows in the swamp behind my place i put my machine on it's butt so to say, as I was going a bit to fast and the willows were fairly thick, and the chanel tracks literally climbed up the willows until i was sitting vertical. The only draw back i have found to these tracks is that i may need a winter kit as when i get into snow over 2 feet, they are quick to toss the snow out from underneath the machine leaving me high centered, if you are not quick to get off the throttle. This being said the snow hear does not pack and is the consistency of sugar. My snow machine had the same problem with this snow. I have not had a chance to use them in the mud yet but I will get to try that this spring. I did look at other tracks, but the adairs i figured, from what i had read, seen in videos would have been to expensive for me with the exchange rate and duties and seemed best suited to mud running, and the escargo's were way out of my price range.(double the purchase price of my older machine) .Last edited by Aahicnow; 01-09-2017, 10:33 AM.

Also noteworthy, I installed the Adair track tuners this year, based on research and advice in this forum. It has made a huge difference in the machine speed. Turning the 2 center axles/4 wheels into idlers was a good idea. I have only done some basic testing so far around the yard, we will see how it all works for 10 days in October.
