  • Greasing argo outer bearings

    Hi I'm new to this forum and new to argos. Recently I've been given responsibility to maintain a fleet of 6 argo avenger 700's with tracks. Just wondering if anyone has come up with an easier way to grease the outer bearings such as running a grease line through the body that you could grease from inside the argo?

    Aren't there access holes in the rims where you can stick a grease gun with a solid extension wand in to grease them or am I thinking of something else?

      I just bought a new 2017 avenger and some of the holes do not line up with the fittings .

        I think you have to align the holes when you mount the wheel.
        Maybe the dealer didn’t do this?

          No I don't know of any successful, inside the tub, greasing system but there is an automatic chain oiling option on Avengers. You don't mention what year the Avenger 700s are but there are now different wheels available that allow mounting tracks without using spacers. My 2015 Avenger has steel rims with a hole that allows greasing with the wheels on but not through that hole, with the aluminum spacers that my wheels require, to mount tracks.

            Might just be easier to get under the unit and grease with a 90 degree fitting. I bought the grease extension and all but don't even bother using it.
            I seem to be fine with greasing and cleaning the grass axle wrap semi annually and just grease then. But I have thought if I needed to do it with the tracks on I would just drive it up on ramps setup like on your truck tailgate and do it from underneath or jack the machine up and block under the tires/tracks high enough to slide under...

              Later model 700's with the HD axles should all have the holes in the axles and the rims. The extension Argo sells has a slight bend toward the end to come down just after the wheel to find the fitting as they are not inline with the holes.

              Warren if you kept your old tracks you will have to drill the holes in the extensions as the have come since the HD axles came out. I know it gets tougher for us as we age but the best option may be a hose or the extension through the holes and the brail method, you'll get dirty but know if your on.

              I use a forklift greasing the older and newer machines so I can see what I'm doing and clean debris off axles, a 90 degree fitting would be a great addition to any ones toolbox. We don't all have forklifts so aligning fittings by hand is often necessary.
              If you have a fleet to do a table lift may be in order, tracks makes things difficult and with the non HD axles almost necessary to find the grease fittings on some older machines with 8" rims.

                Yeah good point, my next step is the PVC axle guards to keep the grass wrap to a min. Always a pain cleaning that out and have many a time done it mid trip when out in the bush. Nothing works better then an OLFA knife to cut it out it seems.
                The outers are the worst it seems holding muskeg on the bearing extensions and all. I heard 6" PVC but am having a hard time finding it anywhere local.

                  Sparx - 6" PVC might be available at one of your local electrical contractors.. I've done some underground that has spec'd 6" and they may have some laying around you might be able to deal on to get it off their shelves.. Especially this time of year (year end inventory coming up)...

                  To grease my '07 outer bearings I got an extenstion for my grease gun and just drop the tracks off it. It doesn't take that much time, I've found, and there is less frustration.. If you can jack it up that would be an option, but don't build too shaky of a mouse trap.. When my son was younger, he could fit under the tub, and reach the grease fittings.. Not so much now.. lol..

                    I'd love some info on this as well. I am constantly having to pull off salt marsh grass.
