  • Harbor Freight Tire Changer

I take 6x6 tires and wheels to get mounted up for $10 each at a local shop and I figured that I might give this unit a whirl instead. Has anyone used either of these Harbor Freight tire changers or ones like it to mount up tires for your 6x6? If so, how well do they work? I figured that it would be worth a try, and if it doesn't work, just return it. If anyone could chime in on this, I'd appreciate it.

A couple years back, I worked at a small equipment repair shop, and we used the bench model you posted DAILY. It did a great job, and even on the smallest tires, we didn't have to wrestle the tools to work the bead. The bead breaker can't be beat, and neither can the price. If you do get the bench model, you have to make sure you bolt it down.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

I have the floor model mounted to a piece of plywood that I can stand on to hold the machine in place yet make it portable. I've had great luck with it. I would work best mounted to the floor, but you would have to put it in the middle of the room with 4 feet of clearance all around it. I think mine was $39.00 on sale.

I have the small one and have used it on 8 and 9" argo wheels. The tool to work the bead on doesn't work that well for me, tends to cut the bead if not careful. A friend/argo dealer has the bigger model and likes it.

I have the harbor freight floor model tire changer. I had my doubts because of it's low price but it works great. I bolted mine to a pallet, just like the poster above bolted his to plywood. It breaks beads on 8" wheels and removes the tire with no problem. Remember, these tires are difficult to remove under the best conditions, and this changer does it real well. Buy the floor model.

Never used either of those one, have used a similar one to the floor model for larger tyres. It worked ok other than that some beads well impossible to break without an air machine could not be done on it. Once the tyre's bead where done, then all was well and taking the tyres on and putting them on was simple though physical.

no the bead breaker has two adjusting points for diff. size rims.the bead breaker can be bent fairly easy on car(jeep)tires,be patient, work around the bead.iv since added some angle iron to the "arms"that bend

                        harbor freight tire changer

so , I got one of these , it actually works pretty good , most of the beads broke pretty easy and mounting and dismounting was pretty easy , I would recommend it .Did all six tires so already paid for itself , I drilled the floor and put in lead anchors so I could move it out of the way when not being used .

                              Go for it

I have both and they are well worth the money, I use the floor model more often on the 8 or 12 " rims and I don't even have it mounted down . It will pay for itself the first time out, the only mod you will have to do is support the down rods conected to the bead breaker ( they bow out under load) an easy fix.
