  • switching 25" tires to 26" tires

Has anyone went from the 25's to 26's? Was it worth the cost? What would be the benefits?

    Which tires and what 6x6?

If you are talking about a Max IV with 25" rawhide III's vs. 26" terra grips then the only thing that you will gain is water speed and maybe a hair of ground clearance.

What you will lose is ride quality (by going from 8" to 12" wheels) and in my opinion traction. I think that you will be able to go many more places with the Rawhide III's.

If I were you I would keep the 25" tires especially if you have the k-lock wheels with the beadlock. You can't ask for a better all-around tire and performance is much better than the 26" tires. If your main concern is water speed then by all means go with the 26" tires.

If I were in your position I would keep what I had.

According to the people that have ran them they are superior to the rawhide III's but I do not have any personal experience with them. Wait until after next weekend and I can give you a first hand report. Or someone with some Vampires can chime in.

I agree with Mike i would stay with the 25" Rawhides. Vampires will give you better traction but they are heavy and there are clearance problems on a MaxIV. You would have to extend the tires out, Vampires are a good tire but not worth all the problems.

I have the 25" rawhides with the Matt O's 9 " beadlock wheels. When I was looking at upgrading to larger tires/rims i decided on these based on ride quality, larger side wall, descent water speed, and with Matt's rims I can run them at a very low psi.

Jeff couldn't make it with his Hustler so I don't know. Sorry.

I was really disappointed Jeff could not make it, I wanted to hear hard-core mudding and swimming ability on those 26 ASX's.

Here are some Vampire pics for you smokin'. The first 4 in the link are JPSwift's 980 Hustler with 26" Vampire ASX's. The rest are my 950 Hustler with 25x13-9 Vampires on MattO rims.

Keep in mind when looking at that 980 Hustler with 26" tires that it is a BIG machine, there is 9" of ground clearance with these tires. I have 7.5-8" of ground clearance on my 950 Hustler.

MightyMax IV has run Vampires before...and now that JPSwift and I both have them, we agree they are much better than the Rawhides, with swimming being the one area where Rawhides have an edge. Although Vampires swim well with the V's facing forward. Ride quality and mudding capability are definitely better in the Vampire. Although it looks like it would be a hard ride, the tire compound is amazingly soft. Especially with the 25" tire and 9" rims. JPSwift went from the 25 or 26" rawhides to the 26" Vamps and said his ride improved dramatically as well.
                      Hammers should have warning labels.

                        boncrshr ,

I think I remember you telling me that Jpswift is now able to climb muddy embankments , and some really nasty mud holes , that he could not drive through before , when he had the 25 inch rawhides , but now can with the Vampire ASX tires.

                          Vampire 25-13-0

Where did you get the 25-13-9 Vampires? Interco says they don't have any and don't have a production run planned.

I got lucky basically...I bought cosmetically blemished tires from Interco for 49 bucks each. That being said, I get the impression that Interco does intermittent production runs. Because the same thing is going on with the 26" ASX tire. So hopefully they will do another run of them. Did you check Ebay??
