  • Anyone use plastic argo tracks all year round??

I have a lot of swamp/wet land on my property but sandy dry areas as well. Just wondering if anyone using plastic tracks all year round.

We use them all year on our property on the Eastern Shore of Md. It is all marsh and flooded forests, and that is the only way to move there.

I have the 18" plastic tracks and keep them strictly for snow. Being a track guy I bought some adair tracks for everyday use. That style of track turns my bigfoot into a different more capable machine. Turns easier, still narrow, compared to the argo tracks I have. They also have only one connecting point, belted, so less wear in sand and such on fewer components of the tracks.
I find tracks smooth the ride a little more.

If you are in a condition that calls for them I'd say go for it, as Greg writes, there are many people down here that use them year round for marsh travel.
Hard pan, gravel and asphalt are you enemies, the will promote external track wear and sand will eat the pins quicker though some down here use them in the sand for needed floatation.

Give it a try, should you find excess loss of traction on dry ground where you are using the machine remove them as that is a sign of a wearing factor and no need for them. If your property is mostly wet leading to sand I'd guess use them but I would clean them daily to try to remove grit and promote track life. Adairs will probably act better in the summer, but I would think running Adairs over the plastic Argo or Trutrax would promote ground distortion much like running a lugged tire over Runamuks.

Thanks argojim, im going to try it out this weekend. ill let you guys know how it goes. I'd love a set of adair tracks, but cant find anywhere in Canada that sells them, Adair wants way too much for shipping.
