  • bead lock alternative

I did a search for screw nailing the beads to the rims as they do on some race cars and didn't find any reference in this forum. Has anyone tried drilling the rims and putting screws into the bead of the tire instead of using higher pressure or bead locks?

I'd be interested how it worked or didn't.

yes we use to use sheet metal screws back when we raced NATVA just on the rear tires.
worked well for racing but they would leak down in a day or two. we did try to seal them with windshield adhesive.

I wonder if something like slime tire sealant would help with the 'leak down' if a screw was a little too long?

I’ve had great luck with Quad Boss tire sealant.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

we didn't have or use slime back in the day but i bet that would solve the leak down issue.

Is there any option of foam filled tires? The next best solution in my mind would be them expensive Tire Balls you put inside the tires. That coupled with Beadlocks would be the ultimate!
