Tall Grass and Channel Tracks are bad news

I have a set of channel tracks on my 2015 Argo frontier 8x8. I really like the tracks as far as crossing swampy areas and in the woods. But I have found in tall grass I don't like them at all. After diving the Argo 3/4 mile in tall grass or even after making a trail in the grass and driving the same trail I had made. I would have grass building up round the axles. The most grass build up around the rear axle not as bad on the front some on the middle four axles. It is a pain to remove the grass from the axles, you need a utility knife or sharp knife to cut the grass off the axles after it balls up around them. What I see is the grass getting between the metal (channels) on the track and the tire then tears the grass from the ground. Then ends up falls down between the tire and track then carried round the inside of the track and dumped onto the axles and rolled up tight on the axle. Had to clean grass off axles every time I used it in grassy trail or in tall grass. Here's some pictures. I love the channel tracks every where else but in that grass.

May be worth a try using the old pvc pipe around the axle trick to see if it helps. Take some pvc pipe and cut it in half lengthwise and glue back together around each axle so it is free to rotate.

wow never seen that before. the grass that i go through looks identical and I've never had a problem, running 18 inch argo rubber tracks

Wow! That would be a “pita” to deal with! Still saving for the rubber tracks!

After have that grass around my axles. I am looking at getting the Argo rubber 18" rubber tracks for the Argo now. I have an 1986 otter with 18" rubber tracks and never had grass on the axles.

hillside...i like those tracks on your max 2 photo . did you bend those guides yourself ? that machine must really float over most mud and snow . johnboy va.

I had the 18" rubber tracks, not much difference. PVC axle guards are a must. Got plenty of pics of grass wrapped axles if you want to see them. Muskeg piled up on the bearing extensions too... Tis the Argo life.

Hi john Swenson. No I didn't build the tracks. I guy in Wasilla, AK. did. like I said the tracks work great but don't like that grass.
