  • High lifter Outlaw tires on the Argo Frontier 6x6

Okay, here is a thought, concept and questions all at the same time. I have never seen the High lifter Outlaw tires on any AATV except the Hydrotrax.

I know for a fact that the High lifter Outlaws are an out standing mud tire and will out preform just about anything out there in deep mud.

Now a Frontier 6x6 has a 57.3 inch wheel base. High lifter makes a 28x12.5x12 tire that would fit right on the Kawasaki bead lock K rim.

The 6-ply rated "Outlaw" was designed to be durable and puncture resistant, but 3-4 pounds lighter than most tires to maximize horsepower.

The K rim is ten inches wide so a 28 inch tire should sit about 27 inches tall on the K rim.

That should leave a little more than an inch between tires and plenty of tub clearance.

Okay so now the questions, that 28 inch out law should give an Argo about 12 inches of ground clearance and with all that air inside the tire they should float the machine pretty high.

So is a Frontier 6x6 with outlaw tires going to swim?? I already know it will be outstanding in the mud.

I know an Argo Frontier 6x6 with the 16 inch wide Vendetta tire swims like a fish and rides great, but will not preform as well as the Outlaw in the mud.

Does anyone out there have experience with the outlaw tires on an AATV and will they swim????

Hard to guess. Most open lug tires don't swim as well as closed in paddle types.
Something to note about ground clearance. The deeper your tread the more height you lose once they sink into soft mud etc. I mean the trade off is more GO so its usually worthwhile.
Also these tires are likely going to be very stiff similar to those aqua torques. They weight something like 3 normal 26" tires.

The problem with aggressive tires is that once they start digging in the muck, you are usually stuck at that point as well.

In terms of the Hydrotrax, I've only seen two in real life, and I have to say their performance wasn't that good. It could have been the driver's, but I think it's more likely due to over aggressive tires. Hard to power, hard to turn, and heavy.

I think a light weight machine, with normal floatation tires or tracks, is the best way to go.

that's the advantage of tracks i guess...stay on top of the mud as much as possible . johnboy va.

You know I recall having the interco 26 inch vampires on my MaxIV. They are a very aggressive tire, the ASX version was wider with less aggressive lugs. I have run both types of tires and I have seen both tires on several other machines. I have always observed that the more aggressive tread on the Vampire would dig into the mud so fast that the machine was stuck before it could get forward momentum. The ASX Vampires tires would slowly walk through the same hole if you allowed the tires to spin and work their forward .

Yup, and it takes a lot of power to turn them in the mud, the heavy weight is extremely hard on the chains, sprockets, and bearings, and as Noel has stated they are hard to turn! As for the ride, they ride a lot better then you might believe once they are moving over 5 mph.

I think kghills had some 27 or 28 tires on his iv.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
