hey max .. there is a thread in here from not long back where i talked about the same thing . it's probably under '' tires , tracks , etc. section '' . i think the advantages are it may add a little more power , it keeps less chance of '' chain windup '' ( tires rotating at different speed ) and with tracks in most cases you don't need the front tires pulling and it's supposedly easier on the tranny . i'm not sure if it's the same for both 6 wheel and 8 wheel . but i have removed my front chains on my max 2 with tracks and will be testing today . i want to see if i notice any difference before i go to the busco mud gathering . so i will report back later today with my conclusion . johnboy va.
If your tracks have the correct tension you only need a front or rear chains. It eliminates all the chain windup and stress. You just have to watch because you do increase your chance of tire slip. If you ride in the some nasty stuff i'd keep all the chains.
i know before at busco in the '' slippery mud '' my tires would sometimes spin in the tracks . i think the main reasons were the tire tread was not very aggressive ( turf tire style tread ) and the tracks were'nt super tight . now the tires are better tread and i will keep them tighter . j.b.
after installing the tracks ( with no front chains ) i took a ride down thru the pasture and into the small muddy swamp i have . the main thing i noticed was the max seemed very "" nimble "" . it turned real easy and had plenty of power . i had no problem going thru the swamp . it's not deep '' gumbo '' mud , but still fairly muddy. overall i liked the way it felt and performed . i will get a better test at busco. i think one thing is that when you have full tracks , the front and rear tires are really " tied together '' and if the tires are not the same diameter , they work against each other . with no tracks that does'nt matter as much because there is only a small part of each tire on the ground . so with the front chains off , the front tires are freewheeling and that frees up some power and stress . johnboy va.
