2 ply 4 ply 6 ply - What to get

I had heard to only get 2 ply tires since the tire is the only suspension we've got. That kind of limits tire choices with so many 4 and 6 ply tires out there.

It seems the Rawhide III is kind of what everyone uses as a baseline to compare tires to, so other than that tire, what would be a good, cheap is possible, choice for a Max 4?
