    Hi All!
I am new to this site and to AATV's. I recently purchased a new 2017 Argo Frontier Scout 6X6 and am looking for input. I have a place in northern New Mexico that I can't get to for about 6 months of the year due to snow, snow drifts and mud. I had a Atv that would handle the mud but not the snow. I got a snowmobile that will handle the snow but not the mud. This Argo should be the one to due the trick for me.
The questions I have are about the tracks. What is going to be the biggest difference between the 13.5" plastic tracks and the 18" super tracks? The issue isn't the mud as I don't have a lot of climbing trees or boulders or streams so I don't need the rubber tracks or escargot type track. It is just trying to learn what difference these tracks will make in the snow.
I would also like to hear from anyone with experience with these machines in the NM or sourthern Colorado area.
    Thanks!

I'm next door to you in Utah and I have been running Argos in the high country snow here for decades. Do not even consider the standard (narrow) tracks as they will not give you enough floatation in the snow conditions we have in the rockies. If you can afford the rubber tracks those are going to be the best in the snow as unmodified/stock tracks. The supertracks give the same amount of floatation, but there big short coming in stock/unmodified form is that they lack the ability to grab or paddle in deep snow. They are lousy climbers and rely on the snow packing up inside the track to gain any type of traction. They work much better if you bolt on a 7-8" long piece of angle iron (1-1 1/4") from the middle of the track and then to the outsie edge where the ice cleat bolt hole is. This will give the tracks the ability to paddle in the deep snow and make a big difference. The ultimate modification to the supertrack is to extend that angle iron out past the outside edge 6" and bolt on a 4" wide rubber belt. This will give you the best floatation and ability to climb in the deepest snow. There has been an 8 whhel older argo on the Denver craigslist ads for sale recently that has this mod done to the tracks.

Thank you for that input as I am trying to gain the wisdom from folks that have already been there. your experience is greatly appreciated ! Where in Utah are you? I have Kids that moved up to the Salt Lake area a few years ago and I spend a little time up there with them. We are trying to get some hunting in together up there this fall!
