  • mounting new tires

I just bought new goodyear terras and read on here that someone uses a bead of silicone on rims before mounting. Is this necessary or recommended? I plan to use slime.

I would use a good bead sealer,if will actually adhere the tire bead to the rim.Coat the rim and tire bead a couple of times for a secure bond.Silicone will probably work but it may not adhere as well as the sealer. Slime is only for puncture and air loss due thorns etc. it will not stop tire from rolling off the rim beads.

Patrick, there are rims available from Recreatives that are called K-lock bead lock rims. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 People run tires on those at 1psi or lower without any problems with popping the bead off. Just something for future reference. If you are using your rims, I'd just use a nice coat of bead grease all around when mounting them up.
