  • Green Slime Question

Ok, I'm not too cheap to buy new tires. But my freshly rebuilt machine needs to prove itself of being worthy before I fork out any more money.

So with this said, I'm going to Green Slime the snot out of my old original Rawhides.

They sell "ATV/Mower" Green Slime and also "For All Tires" Green Slime. The "For All Tires" Green Slime is a little cheaper. Is there any difference between them?

Also, any tips you might share would be greatly appreciated. I've never used this stuff.

    Thanks, Roy

not sure on the difference between the two. i buy it at lowes in gallon jugs. if your going to use a lot of it, i find it easier to break one bead on the tire, dump it in, then reseat the bead. if you don't want to do that, pull the valve core and let all the air out. then push against the tread to force more air out before you start filling with slime. otherwise you can't get much slime in the tire without it trying to spit back out the valve stem and make a mess

      careful in water

I recently put slime in one of my hustler tires that was pretty dryrotted, my main air leaks were around the bead. Everything was fine until I took it for a swim. The water seemed to dissolve the slime, and the tire would not hold air anymore. I have used slime in four wheeler tires and had great success, but never submerged them in water. I ended up putting a tube in my tire and that solved my problem, but if you use a tube, I recommend using something to secure the tire bead to the rim. My first tube did not last long because the rim spun inside the tire and tore the valve stem out of the tube.
I don't want to go fast, I just want to go anywhere.

              How much slime?

How much slime does everyone recommend? The chart on Slime's web site says 27 ozs per tire which sounds like alot.

i'm not much on following directions... i have a simple formula that works for me. how ever much slime you have devided by how many tires you have = slime per tire

Slime is water soluble but the fibers and and other particles are what fills the leak are not. They don't recommend it for bead leaks but it has worked for me. You need the max required amount for a bead leak. i also put in about 5 psi on the bead leak-er. 2.5 psi is what I normally run and that did nothing.
