Hydro traxx on Outlaws

Several months ago I took off the set of 26 Goodyears that came from the factory, and in place of them, installed a set of 26 Gators on my Max IV. I bought the Gators from a man who also had a Max IV, but he used his mainly for duck hunting. When I asked why he was selling them,,his answer was " they don,t have enough water speed for what I need, when I,m duck hunting. I payed $180 for all six tires, which was a steal compared to what you pay for new. High $80,s I think

I drove from North Little Rock,Arkansas back to Shreveport, Lousiana where I live, and had the Gators installed at a Local Atv and motor cycle dealership. On my Max IV these tires made it look "bad to the bone". In soft soupy mud, thick mud,or driving through water with a bottom, that the tires could touch, the gators made my Max IV just about unstopable !

I then drove down a trail that dead ended at a small pond to test the water ability of the Gators, since I was so impressed with their muddin ability.

Since I had earlier crossed a small creek and had made my way across easy enough,,this was my next test of the Gators.

I drove into the pond with a little speed, and ended up about 15 ft from the bank, where I came in. I had the Gators installed "backwards" like the factory Good years, but mounted this way gave me next to nothing water speed.

The short water test of driving my Max across a small creek had worked, only because of the momentum I,d gained before I intered the creek. The water ability of the Gators was next to nothing , I later sadly found out!

I then tried driving backwards to the bank,,but ended up going side ways in the water towards it. It was becoming VERY frustrating now , because I thought I might have to swim to the bank with a rope , and then swim back , to retrieve my "no swimming", amphibious Max , and pull it back to the bank. I then tried using almost no throttle, and this seemed to give me just enough water speed ( momentum ? ) to paddle side ways back to the shore . I won,t try this again with the Gators ! That day I learned a lession .

The man who sold me these tires for such a good price, told me the Gators he,d bought,, did,nt have enough water speed for duck hunting . What he should have said though , is that the Gators have next to nothing for water speed , and only " slightly better " water speed , having the Gator tires mounted with the "V" ( digging part of the tire ) mounted forward . Mounted this way,,there is a slight tread curve on the outer edge of each tire . This seems to help a little , though not much .

I,ve seen an Argo Big foot with 25 Vampires , and these tires have a little water speed.,just enough to get you across a small body of water . This argo with the Vampire tires , could easily go through places that stopped every other amphib on the video I saw , and make it look easy doing it. This is because of the very agressive tread pattern of the Vampires, and also the exellent ability to self clean themselves of mud.

Other than the stock 26 Good years ( for great water speed ) , the Swamp Fox Plus tires , seem to be the best compromise for swimming ,digging ,and self cleaning , from the You tube videos I,ve seen.

Reference outlaws

Swamp Hawg, I've been talking to them to and they are about to release a new model that has 28" outlaws as an option but the guy told me you could fit 29.5 in outlaws on this rig. He also said that they swim really well with the outlaws (he said it swims better with the out laws than the standard 25 " Goodyears-thats hard to believe!). Also soon to be available is a jet pump drive system,wow! But before you spend your money check out the comments Mudbug made to me about the Hydro traxx. As for the out laws there is no better mud tire period but one of the guys said they have a very rough ride! I have a set of 27" AMS Swamp Fox plus tires on mine and they are not as good in the mud as outlaws but they ride better and are a good compromise. Mark up at R.C. says you can put 27" gators on the MaxIV and it is almost unstoppable. You might want to talk with him, he works in the parts section. Hope this helps.

I see no point in putting them on an amphibious vehicle. Sure they'll fit on a Max IV, Frontier, or Avenger, but they provide zero water speed. That is and always has been the problem with changing tires on our AATVs. Our vehicles rely on water speed as it helps them to paddle through water filled mud holes. Remember our vehicles won't sink to the bottom to find traction like a 4x4.

I was looking at the hydrotraxx website the other day and saw that you can get 25", 26", or 27" Highlifter Outlaws on their machine as a factory installed option.
Anyone on here ever run anything that aggressive on a 6x6?
I have the 29.5's on my 4wheeler and they really are unbelievable in the mud.
