  • Carlisle Chevron 22x11x8 Questions???

The carlisle chevron tire is listed as a 22" tire. What is the real overall diameter? Are they as tall as the 22" rawide III's? I have an attex superchief that will be needing tires in the near future and after going back and forth with what to get I think I want to put as close to what came on the machine originally. I'd get a set of the nankang chevrons if I could find them but...
Opinions on the carlisle chevron? I heard they are not as soft, which sucks because that's what I'm looking for. I had an amphicat years ago with the balloon tires, I loved them. I guess I'm one of those guys. Are the carlisle chevrons even close to that?

I have the Carlisles. They are hard and not as tall as the Rawhide IIIs. Actually they're close to 3 inches smaller in diameter. They swim pretty good though. I have a set that I might sell but probably not until the summer.

I think RI might have Nankangs burried in their inventory. Try calling Dan there.

George is absolutely right about those Carlisles being a hard tire. There were some Carlisle Chevrons from years back that were actually pretty soft, but they must have changed their rubber compound at some point. Unfortunately Recreatives has since sold out of the (nice and soft) Nankang Chevron tires, but I've heard it mentioned that there still might be some available directly from Nankang, but I suppose the only way to find out would be to contact Nankang directly.

Thanks eddie, but I'll have to pass. I have those on my attex now and those baby's are real hard. Anyone with a set of nankang chevy's out there that they want to get rid of? I have two balloon three lugs that I'd throw in on a deal.

            What's the deal?

How come some of the pictures of the carlisle chevrons look really wide and others don't? I'm talking about the closed chevron tire.

I think it is because of the different PSI that folks are running in them. They really get tall and narrow with higher air pressure. I like to run mine at about 2 psi because they're soft, wide, and offer better traction this way.

The Chevrons increase diameter when you put them on narrow rims. On 7" they are about an inch taller than 8" rims. I think you can still get 7" wide rims from argo for the runamucks.

                  Makes sense

I'd be putting them on 8.5" wide rims, which is good, I like the look of the wide tire. I think it helps you stay on top of things too.. mud, snow, etc.
