Best Tires?

Hey all ! I am the new Guy in FL.
I am using 22x11x8 rawhide right now and I do not care for them ... I was thinking of going to the 22x11x8 chevrons ?
what do you all think are the chevron go in the water ?? were I am at we have a lot of water and grass . and BEACH
or is there a better way to go ?? and what is the biggest I can go on a MAX ll 500T ????

I think the way to find out what the best tire is (this is a pretty broad term and everyone has a tire that will work "best" for their application) us folks with machines set up for serious mud and swamp terrain need to all get together on a ride and test out the tires in a real life situation.......talk is cheap, so we need to get out there and put the tires to the test, just like the guys from the offroad and ATV magazines test stuff out. I know there is some pretty sticky mud in the northeast, but it doesn't seem to compare to what guys in Texas have. Take a look at 6x6World member Boncrshr's Hustler with 25" Vampires can do in some really intense mud. I think there are some videos of his rig on Youtube. Let's see some videos of all these tires in action and get together with our rigs and compare them so we can have some actual evidence of their capabilities.

Best AATV Tire?

ToryG-I would have never guessed that the goodyear ATT tires swam. It's sounds like an excellent choice for a MaxII or a MaxI V if you can live with the reduced ground clearance. One thing no one has mentioned is these ATT tires are light and with a 9' Matt O rim they probably weight in at less than 30 pounds. That kind of weight on my MaxIv would make for explosive power.

I just weighed an RAWHIDE ATT this morning on a Mudd Ox Rim and it came to 34 pounds. Not to bad for a wheel and tire combo built like a Sherman tank. I just point and go. I think Whipper could run a set of these through a cactus patch and get home with out stopping. I wouldnt do it becouse they would like pin cushins but I dont think it would hurt their basic function and ride quality. I have 2 inch crab able thorns all over my property and I have never had trouble with these tire's.

Thanks for the heads up, mudbug........that's a good link to know of for those folks looking to mount wide tires like the Vampire ASX tires on their Max or Argo. I believe the bolt pattern is pretty much universal among AATV's, 5 lugs x 4.5".

Thanks mudbug. You're absolutely right, these are the tires to have "IF" you can fit them, but there aren't many machines that can fit them without modifications. I believe MightyMaxIV had to have 1.5" wheel spacers custom made to fit the Vampire ASX's on his Max IV because they're so wide and they would have rubbed on the tub without them. I was lucky enough that they just bolted right onto my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT without any issues at all.

Every time I see that picture that you posted of your Hustler Bigfoot, with those WIDE , 26 inch ASX tires,,,I think WOW,, those tires look awesome on your machine! I think this is the very best " over all tire " for an amphib,, " if " you can fit them on your machine.

I called RI about this in December, and the person I spoke to said that they planned to buy enough Goodyears "to last a while," and that they would be available to Max owners that needed them.

Not exactly a confidence-inspiring answer, but it suggests that there will be at least one source of these tires while everyone is figuring out what else to use. Hopefully, there will be a 22x11x8 puncture resistant tire that swims before long, but I wonder why any manufacturer would bother...

Tory, that picture that you posted. Is that the way that they swim the best? I'm in the market for some 25" tires for my Max II and this may be what I need. The best mud tire and the best swimmer...sounds too good to be true?

It depends on what make/model of Max or Argo you are thinking about putting the tires on since some machines can only fit up to a certain size tall/wide of a tire. I've tried a few different tires (especially the aggressive mud tires). I've seen many tires in action on many different machines as well. The absolute hands down best tire (if you can fit it on your machine) is the 26x13x12 Super Swamper Vampire ASX. This tire is unbeatable in the deep mud and snow, and it even swims well. It is also nearly 14" wide. Your ground pressure exerted with this tire is very low because of all the contact area. 6x6World members Mudbug3, Don, Meinfeld, Boncrshr, MightymaxIV, and myself have all used these tires and we absolutely love them. If you're at an event and I'm there with my Hustler, you'll have to try it out.......you point the Hustler in any direction that you want to go, and it will crawl through/over just about anything that gets in your way. These tires are truly a diamond in the rough among AATV tires. Here is a picture of them on my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT.
