  • Tires for my 1999 Conquest?

    Hello Everyone

I've been lurking around on the site for a couple of months getting information on purchasing an ARGO. Well, I finally bought a 1999 Conquest last week with about 100 hours on it. The machine came with Runamuks but I would like to change them out but I would like to for go the expense of buying new wheels. I ride in muddy swamps and flooded timber so I would like a good mud/swim tire (who wouldn't). I've called a couple of dealer for a price on the 24 inch Frontiers and I think they are out of price range. What do you think would be the next best tire to put on the conquest and where is the best place to order them from? I've read a lot (I think all) of the tire threads but I am still a little unsure of which tires would be best suited for this machine that will fit on my 8 inch wheels. Thanks for your help, this site is awesome.

Welcome, good to have you aboard! Tires- The choice of tires to fit an 8" rim is getting less and less. Especially those suitable for AATV use.For me a soft tire/ride was the first and most important factor so that narrowed it down quite a bit. I liked the frontiers too but both clearance AND price were an issue for me. I like the runamucks but even those are a little pricey(I must be getting old, everything seems that way now). I settled on AMS "zippers" as they are soft and should offer good traction and were affordable. I haven't got them mounted up yet so I can't report on them but a couple guy's here have used the "sand and snow" tire which is similar and they were mostly positive about them. Another option are goodyear rawhide 3's if they are still available, they are a GREAT all around tire. I wish carlisle would offer the frontier themselves at a more affordable price. Wish I could help more.
As far as where to order, Rocky Mountain ATV was offering some good deals with free shipping and online coupons.

First off, welcome to the site

      This is just a thought

Is there something wrong with the Runamucks? They only have 100hrs on them. They are not the best mud tire out there, but they are pretty good swimmers. Why not run them for another yr, save your pennies, and get a set of Frontiers next yr?

I know I say I like the Frontiers alot, but there is a good reason.
      They are exellent swimmers
They are the largest tire you can fit on your machine
They are good mudders (not in thick, sticky mud, but none are at Argo tire speeds)

I spend lots of time in Swampy stuff, but not much time in flooded timber. I think even Runamucks are a good choice for those conditions.

Whatever you decide to go with, please remember to tell us how they work out for you.

Thanks for the information guys. RD, I think the guy that had my machine must've drove on hard surfaces alot b/c there isn't a whole lot of useable tread left on the tires. On the bright side though, there aren't any plugs in them! What are the options for 8 inch rims or do you think it may be best to buy new rims and some other brand of tires? I've read that the swamp fox plus are good swimmers and mudders but I can't find it in an 8 inch rim. There is a Swamp Fox (without the plus) in a 22X11-8 but I haven't read any reports on their performance. I know this is an old subject but I don't want to make a costly mistake on the wrong purchase.
        Thanks

It's not clear what a good tire for the argo 8 is, switching from runamuks. Even if you find a tire, chances are it won't stay mounted(the rawhide) at low psi (2 or 3) like the runamuk and frontier tires do, on the argo 8" wheels. If you bought 8" MaxII wheels that would solve the problem but you could afford frontier tires for that cost.

The overpriced frontier tire is the best upgrade you can do to an 8 wheeler. RD spent the $ and never regretted it. Every other option I've seen is a compromise and not a likeable one. There are some good mud tire options, like the super swamper 22x8. Suffers from falling off the rim and won't swim a lick..

            Thanks Roger

You're right, there's no need in spending money on a compromise. Do any of you know where to get the best price on the Frontier tires?

Argo Dealers are the only place to get them at this point, as far as I know

                Just My 2 Cents

I Know Your Having A Hard Time Finding Tires For 8'' Rims.. I Have 9'' Rims On My Max Ii . And Now The Tire Comps Are Fading 9''rim Tires Out Too. If You Look At Any Site You Can See For Your Self..not Near What There Was Last Year..
But If You Look They Are Coming Out With More 12'' Rim Tires. That Might Be Something To Look At For The Future..... I Know It's Not Good Cuz I Just Got My Hands On 9'' Rims From Matt O .
He Sales 9'' Rims..if I Had Known What I Know Now, I Would Of Put 12'' Rims On It!!!!! ( Lol ) But I Do Wish You Luck On What Ever You Do..

Well, I got the tires and put them on this weekend. They look and ride great. Hopefully I will be able to get out this coming weekend and try them out in the woods. Thanks for everyone's advice.
