OK! Where can I find these Vampires everyone is talking about? I am looking at the GBC Gator and the Kendra Bearclaws. Don't know if you can still get the Goodyear rawhide or not. And not exactly sure what size I can go up to with my Argo Conquest.
I might be able to save you a little bit of trouble/time/money on the Gators and Bearclaws. Recreatives ran Gators on a Max IV demo model and it was good in the mud, but it would not swim at all when I saw it in action at Copper Ridge off road park in Olean, NY. 6x6World member, Boncrshr had Bearclaws on his Hustler 950 and they also were a good mud tire, but they wouldn't swim well.
As for the Vampires, which ones are you looking for the standard Vampire ATV tire or the Vampire ASX? The ASX is only available in 26x13x12 while the standard Vampire is available in a pretty wide variety of sizes.
If you have an Argo, I would imagine that you're looking for the 25x13x9 size to fit the 9" rim, but I really don't know how much room you have under a Conquest.......maybe an Argo owner can help you out with that question. As for the 26" ASX Vampire, those are a little harder to find right now.......I'd take a look at this link on their website to help you out.
The axle spacing on the response and conquest is 2ft, about an 1/8th" less on the front two axles. So the actual tire dia has to be under 24" or they will hit each other. Plenty of tub clearance for 25's, same as Bigfoot, etc, but of no use except to fit tracks.
To Invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. (Thomas Edison)
Thanks for the help, Roger. In that case, you can get the standard Vampire tires in a 22x12.5x9 size as well.
Hey Roger, do you remember who the 6x6World member is that a couple months back put 8 25" Vampires on his Argo 8x8? He posted some videos of his rig in action and he was going over some pretty serious terrain without an issue.

argo conquest has 8 inch rims,so if you want to get some better choices you will be looking at getting rims as well. i know that rock doctor is runing the 24 inch frontier tires on his conquest.
JP, that was an avenger. It and the frontier both have a stretched wheelbase and wider axle spacing, and more tub height. You can put the 22x12?X8 tsl's on the conquest but they don't swim, great in mud though.

Yep that's the one I'm thinking of Roger.....thanks. I've heard the 22x11x8 Super Swamper TSL's don't swim too.....these ones here:
Those folks wanting to run the 22x12.5x9 Super Swamper Vampires would have to upgrade to 9" rims........the best way to go would probably be to contact Matt O for his 9" beadlock rims. I know these Vampires in a 25x13x9 version will swim, and are much better in the mud than the Super Swamper TSL, but the downside would be that you'd have to spend more money to purchase the 9" rims, but the upside would be the performance in the mud and water and also you'd have an extra set of wheels and tires and he could still use his tracks with his other wheel and tire combo.
Great, Looks like alot of options. Question - Aluminum wheels verses steel? I am fond of the idea of having an extra set of wheels and tires also. I do not want to lose my track ability and don't mind the extra work if I have to change out all the skins. But I don't think I really need aluminum wheels and it should save me a little cabbage on the steel.
I like the pattern of the vampires but they are a bit expensive. Can ya'll give me some other options as far as retail outlets?
At JP's Interco link , there is a 22x12.5.x8 tsl ATV you guys may have meant the vampire tsl..
Jon Hoath had these on argo wheels. On an old eight wheeler, then a conquest, then a maxII. They wouldn't stay mounted in all conditions, esp as they got older. He bought 8" k rims and that helped.
I really don't have a tire recommendation for the response/conquest. Several 22" atv tires are made.. the frontier tire is the tallest he can fit, and is 8".
Titan made a Tru Power tire in a 23" tall, 12" wheel, like a mini maxIV factory tire. Looks like a super tire.. wasn't real wide and of course a 12" wheel and only 23" dia. Not much suspension and a lot of weight. Always wondered what they do on a maxII or eight wheeler.

I believe Don had a Max II with the 23x10.5x12 tractor style tread tires and there was an Attex on ebay with those same ones too. I thought I heard that for a year or two Recreatives offered these tires as an option on some of their machines in the 70's or 80's. I saw some of these tires in person and they are certainly very heavy and they are probably the worst riding tires out there......I think they're probably best left on the garden tractors.
I think Kevin Griffin told me about a guy he knew with the Super Swamper TSL 22x12.5x8 tires and his thoughts about them were pretty much the same thing that you mentioned, Roger. Those TSL's are probably a tire to avoid and it would probably be better off to stick with the Vampires. It's unfortunate that there aren't that many other options for 22" and under tires for us.

has anyone tried the btk wings? they make those in the 22'' x8'' ,I was thinking about trying those, there similar to sur traks but a little more aggresive and priced right.....
So what are your opinions on the Vampire TSL and the ASX swimming abilities? I think I will have to get a set of these on larger rims and keep my originals to run my tracks with.
