Tire grip height

As for going from 22" to 21" tires you are really only losing 1/2" of clearance assuming both of them are actually 22" and 21" tall.

Will it make a difference? I guess it could but to me it's really not enough to worry about. Now if you were going from 25" to 21" then that would be a little different.

The stock 21" Goodyear Rawhides (not the III's) are pretty good in the water.

Besides the $125/tire price tag of the 24" frontier, what is the 2nd best water tire that fits on my stock rim (22" rawhide) and wont requrie any modifications?

Yeah, 1/2" is plenty of tread. The rawhide III's are just slow in the water compared to other tires. Having them mounted correctly should make a big difference though.

Well, I reversed the tires and it might have helped only slightly. Are you certain the tread grip height only being 1/2 is not my problem?

I think John Schwab test fitted them on his II with an external muffler and they cleared, don't know by how much. The tire is narrower than a rawhideIII so that might help. Got to be a close fit though, and also if there's body sag up front. How easy would it be to change the gearing on a II.

I believe those will only fit the newer Max IIs with the rear exhaust. You have the side exhaust on your 99 don't you? I think it will get in the way. You can change over to the newer style internal muffler though.

The tire "grip height has little to do with water speed. The fastest Max 11 tires in water are Argo Frontier 24" tires. Google ,Maximum Off-Road ATV. Owner Brandon price posted a movie of that combination. They are fast in the water BUT you will need to put your plugs in.and the direction of the tread is critical." Vs facing forward", I'm not sure but it doesn't sound right. Argo Playing in the Ice on the Bay on you tube might give you a goal to shoot for. Good Luck and check and oil those 20 year old chains first.

look at the pic on here the v should be backwards from the front of the max if they are faceing like a tractor tire they will not go in the water . robbie

Water speed Maxii

I just got my 99 Max II delivered and put it straight in the pond (fist without the plugs). I know their slow but this thing is really really slow. It hardly makes any headway. The V's are facing forward and the height of the tread is 1/2inch. I have 22 inch raw hide III.

Do I need new tires? Does anybody know the height of tread on a new tire?

And if the suggestion is new tires; which size and brand should I get if water speed is most important to me?
