Mounting new Tires

New Carlisle AT101 tires came in on Friday and I attempted to mount them on Saturday. No way was it possible to seat both beads to add air. My friend Gil recommended stretching the tires. Well this is what I used to stretch the tires to move the beads apart. (2) 10" long 2x4's on a half mounted rim. It may take a couple of days depending upon the temperature.

Sometimes you can kind of push the bead on, on the valve stem side. Then lay the tire valve stem up on a block or something so the rim is laying on it and the tire is hanging down. Take the core out to allow air to go in faster and then hit the air to it and lightly push the tire down. If you push to hard or the bead wasnt push on hard enough, it may fall off. Sometimes takes a bit of messing with but ussually that has worked for me. If all else fail, and your up for a blast, starting fluid. But you have to be care full and ussually I try not to do that.

Yes, Larry I usually do the same. Even tried to seat one bead and pull the other to meet the rim. These AT 101 just didn't want to cooperate. But after Stretching for a day the bead width met the rim without the ether excitement. The only thing I didn't try was a high powered leaf blower to Jet air between the rim and tire.

A tye down around the middle of the tread and tighten it up can spread the bead enough to seat the bead.

Paul that was the first thing I did, but the AT 101 has a very soft side wall and flexible tread that it just collapsed the tread. The AT101 is the replacement for the Powertrack and Powertrack II. The tire is also a 4 ply and seeing as how flexible they are I looking forward to seeing if the ride is better. The Carlisle chevrons that were on the Attex were quite stiff in comparison.
