  • starting fluid bead seating

anyone who has been working on anything that rolls on tires for more than a few days has run into the issue of a tire that won't get onto the bead. if the ratchet strap fails, most know that a little starting fluid and a match will get the job done. having burned all my eye lashes off last time i did this, i decided to find a better way. at my local hobby shop i bought a pack of model rocket igniters and a controller with a 50' cord. just hook it up, tape an ignitor to your tire, spray eather till your hearts content, walk to the end of your cord (still prefferably around a corner or behind a big tree.) and hit the button. it ignites and you don't have to be in harms way

Yeah, but where's the fun in that? I'm kidding!

That is a good idea though if you have to do it that way.

i always do it off the machine. been using that trick for years and never dammaged a tire... like i said, eyebrows are another story. it's best if done at night for visual effect (and to piss off the neighbors)

I have been doing the same thing for a long time. Just doing it on way bigger tires, say 60"x20" tires on loaders! Fun till you see a tire slip past the bead on the back, and lift a 500lb rim & 700lb tire about 6-7ft in the air!

BTW: That didn't stop me, I just use a pair of wires & 6v lantern battery!

exelent!!! i started doing it on kart tires when i was a kid. scared the crap out of my parents! your story about the loader tire really drives home the point about getting behind something. the potential for dammage is great

                Tire bead

                Well you guys!!!!!!!
Not that I have not resorted to using eather as well i have yet to have to resort to it on a soft tire. When I have my Rawhides on the rim I put the locking air chuck to the valve stem. I then with my foot quickly press the tire flat and bingo, bead set.
This has always worked for me and have not had to open the spray can of eather yet.........BUT I WILL

yeah, i only resort to this when all else fails... ie: the ratchet strap, cussing... well that's actually all i can think of so i geuss eather is my 3rd resort!!!

                            thanks mike.
that was the only time i've gotten out in the TT. i had just done the water test and was coming out of the thick mud. one nice thing about this drought is that there are no boats on lake norman so an amphib is perfect
