patching balloon tires

I have an old baloon tire with a hole in the sidewall. Someone had patched it years ago with a round patch about 1 1/4" dia. It looks like it was fused to the tire with something better than rubber cement. The repair held, but the patch wasnt thick enough and it now has a hole.

I thought about trying shoe goo to fill the hole and slime inside to seal it.
Anyone have any ideas?

The patch you had was probably done at a professional shop. I cant remember what that method called. Vulcanizing? not sure but I know what your talking about. I once had a old school dune buggy that came with some home made paddle tires that had the paddles glued on the same way your talking.

You may be able to go to a tire place that can re tread tires and ask them if they can do a patch like that.

I wonder if this is the same thing? What is different from this patch kit then a regular one? Or is this a regular one with a fancy name?
It says the patch tappers to blend into the tubes profile. So that may help it from getting snagged being on the outside of the tire.

I read the sidewall fix post already....I can't get inside the balloon tire. I'm good but not that good!
The vulcanizing patch Larry referenced is for the inside also. I was thinking of you Larry, when I made this post anyway. I'm not gonna use this tire, it came with the terra tiger. This tire says attex and is 19". It came with 2 other 19" fatcats too. Is this what you are using?

The little lil truck is running firestone and are measured by circumference. either 63" or 65".

The patch you have on was probably meant to be an inside patch. I wish I know how they did that.

Have you ever seen the old fashion version paddles where they take a normal car tire, shave the tread off and glue/attach (what ever it is) the paddles on? Its almost like a chemical bond or weld type thing. I tried googling around and cant find anything on it.

What we do in patching car tires is that the glue is flammable you put the glue on put the patch on add some more glue around the patch edges and then light it on fire for maybe five seconds then blow it out it ,helps bond the patch on...

jerseybigfoot repaired one of my balloon tires at busco beach last year; that pulled apart at the rim. He used a repair kit that was made to repair holes in Kayaks. The patch is still holding, but it pulled apart on the opposite side of the rim. Here's a link to the kit that he used.
