wheel adaptor for an Argo

Has anyone either made or bought an adaptor to go from the 5 hole to a standard 4 hole wheel. It seems like that would open up a whole new world of options for tires/wheels. I know why the Argo uses beadlock tires but not all of use the machines for that rugged off road riding. I'm retired & use mine around the farm for chores. If I want a smoother ride I just slow down. I also have an abundance of osage orange trees on our place. That means THORNS are everywhere, so a heavier ply tire is a benefit.

The adapters would have to be thick enough to recess the 5-lug studs, since they'd otherwise hit the backside of the rims, and you'd have to recess the back of the 4 studs so they aren't against the 5-bolt flange, even though you probably don't mind about scraping a little, it wouldn't be a solid and therefore true alignment. It could be done but each adapter is going to be chunky and will widen you're Argo a minimum of twice the length of the current wheel studs. Edit: I don't think it can be done. Not sure why it didn't occur to me before but you'll have a stud on the old (5-bolt) and new (4-bolt) pattern trying to occupy the same space, I don't think it can be clocked in a way they won't, since the stud will be passing the much thicker back of the new studs.

i was thinking about that extra width also. If it could be done it would probably create too much pressure on the axles and end up costing more than you'd save.

i have seen the wheel extensions from Richard relic for the tracks. They are flat round circles on both sides with a pipe in the middle. they were both in 5" and 7". i dont see why you could not do the same thing and just change the hole patern to match what you want. The extensions are for tracks so i dont see the prob. good luck

Yes, if the plate that bolts to the original hub is separate from the new 4-bolt, that would work. Since it's two separate plates with a tube welded in between, it will be more work, but could be done. It WILL stress axles/bearing more though.
TerryA, I would look for a set of Rawhide III tires. They are now out of production, but still can be found for a good price online (E-bay)
If you can use 25" tires, use these ARGO Tires, Goodyear Rawhide ATV Tires, 25-11.5-9, Pair : eBay Motors (item 270502639258 end time Mar-16-10 16:11:22 PDT) Whipper has shown photos of large Cacti thorns stuck in them, since he rides in AZ, and had stated somewhere that he's never had a flat with them.

I think I will go to the 25" tires. I've heard mostly good things about the Rawhide III. I think the heavier ply tire I can get would be best for me. Thanks for the feedback everyone. What a great site this is!
