  • Tire Beads off Wheels

Went on our first trip with the argo last Monday. We were on a trail (pole line) that is pretty beat down but has bog patches so it has a lot of wooden bridges/pallets made to cross mud/bog. Also a lot of rocks and obstacles in the way. Anyway about 10 minutes into the trip and after a few hard spots, we heard a rubbing noise and looked down at the passenger side (left side) and the back 2 tires we almost completely off the rim. Ohh yeah, we had the plastic tracks on too. We were like wtf are we going to do now, the back tire wouldn't move and was preventing the track from moving.

So we got out the 12v compressor and hooked it up and after a bit of persuasion we were able to get some air into the tire and we were back in action. But couldn't get the middle one pumped, she completely came off her bead on the inside. Then we discovered the other side middle tire came off her rim too. But she still ran good without the 2 middle tires having any air.

We were lucky to get air back into the rear tire. I don't know what I would've done if we didn't.
I also noticed that on 2 of the other tires, they have a small/slow leak around the bead. I guess most of the tires got a good beating this trip.
So now how do I get the bead back on the middle tires? Time for a trip to the tire shop??
Would a tube in the tire prevented this?

    Thanks,
    Steve

if your tired of tires comming off the bead their is another option besides that very exspensive true bead lock
and that is the STAUN INTERNAL BEADLOCK..i havent checked their pricing so i cant say if their that much cheaper.
but their is a process in setup..its basicly a small heavy duty inner tube that when aired up it puts pressure on the
beads to keep them on but you can still run 1 lb of air in the tire...check out their web site

I clean the rims and tires with a wire brush on a drill. I then install the tire on the rim and put enough air to seat it. I hope you have rims that have the raised bead on the rim to keep the tires seated. I let the air out and I then put in 16 oz of tire slime or simular. I then fill them up with air say one to four lbs depending on what you like for a ride. I haven't had the tires spin on the rim and I haven't had a tire give me trouble in three years. I have added slime and I have added air. In one case I flattened three tires. The first one needed a plugg, the other two needed air. The places I go I don't consider that trouble.

ok, had another issue with one of the same tires that fell off the bead last trip. Was trying to get the argo in the back of the truck and she struck the wheel well hump and fell off the bead again. So anyway, off to the argo dealer to get this installed properly. He put the tire back on but said he had difficultly getting the tire to POP correctly on the rim, so anyway he didn't charge me. So I was like, what the hell, I'll go anyway. So we decided to go without the tracks and about an hour into the trek, off comes the tire again. So anyway, lucky I had the trusty bottle of throttle body cleaner and did the ole spray it in the tire and light it up, after a few sad attempts, the sound of the POP was a relief. Anyway, never had a problem after that.

My question is, is the bead of the tire going bad or the rim or something else????

It sounds like the bead of the tire didn't go over the bead in the wheel the first two times. Do you know how much air pressure the dealer was using to seat the bead? If the bead of the tire doesn't go all the way over the bead in the wheel it can still look like the tire is on and the tire will even seem to seat properly. I had this happen with a tire on my Max k-locks. Just a thought

Not sure how much air he used. But he said he couldn't get it to pop right. Now when I did the ole aerosol spray trick in the woods, it sounded like a gun shot went off and haven't come off since!!?
