  • Busco Beach Cleanup

During awesome fall ride at Busco experienced the pleasure of simultaniously de-rimming the front and rear lefts. No problem,i'll just use my newly created air station, the "Big Bad Wolf" to huff and puff and blow that tire back onto the wheel______NOT!( now thinking "Titanic" may be more appropriate name). Many thanks to Brian for getting one tire reseated while I was swaping my spare for the second. Upon returning home,it is now time to break these two down, clean em out and air them back up. I go on youtube and view various methods of low cost bead breaking devices. I opted for the hitch reciever/pc of firewood/8' 4x4 method. It worked very well. Upon attempting to air up the tires I borrowed the clip on air chuck from the titanic and after a little while of no progress began a little investigating. Turns out this high quality $4 HF air chucks little detent pin intended to depress the tip of the shreader valve, more often than not, DOES NOT do this!!! NO wonder I couldn't get anything done in the field that nite!(where is that little smiley guy bashing his head into the wall?) Next is to go to NAPA and see if $8-10 can purchase a decent clip on chuck. Hopefully this will save face for the Big Bad Wolf.

while you are reseating beads, GET SOME PERMATEX!!!!! after a year of hearing Roger talk about it, i finally did the beads on all my non k-lock wheels. this Busco trip was the first time i've ever not lost a bead. clean the bead of the rim and tire with acetone, brush the stuff on and reseat the bead. let em dry for a week or so before you do any serious riding. it's not a cure all, but it sure seems to help. http://www.permatex.com/products/aut...et_Sealant.htm

while you are looking for a better chuck, look for one that will work with the valve core removed and pick up a valve core tool. for what you are trying to do (blast of air to seat the bead) the core will restrict airflow too much. pull it out and the "big bad wolf" just might work.

Yeah, thanks Brian, I was even contemplating some minor surgury on the $4 chuck to fit the bill.I have a valve cap w/tool on the end right on the left front for this reason, just never tried to "hollow out" an air chuck. Actually have an end for air hose thats hollow and threads right onto the valve stem, this was my original choice,so the core could be removed(needs to be anyhow to let air back out),but after moving it around the shop for 15-20 years when the time to use it came........quess who was no where to be found?(again wheres that little smily) Murphy visits way too often for my liking, lol.
