  • Couple track "Traction" ideas, what do you think?

These were thought up, and brought to my attention by a friend. The intent is to get better traction on hard packed snow while running Plastic Supertracks.

As you know, Supertracks have holes in them made for mounting some type of traction enhancers, so:

Take a length of V-Belt, and tie 2 or 3 knots in the middle, spaced out a bit (maybe 3" or so), lay that across the track pad, and feed each end through one track hole. Pull it snug and knot the belt inside the track to hold it.
We use many different sizes and styles of V-Belt at work, so I can probably get as many miles of it as I want. It's strong, flexable, and if it was ever a problem one quick slash with a sharp knife would have them off in no time.

    Hockey Pucks.......
Cut them in half, so you have matching sets of half moons. Drill through them, and mount one half inside and the other half outside the track. Counter-sink the one on the outside, so your mounting hardwhare is not going to rub up under the tub. The rubber puck bumping into the tub would not cause any issues, but should give a bit of a bite in hard packed snow............just thought to myself that pieces of UHMW plastic would work in a similar way

    Anyway, just tossing ideas around.
Right now I'm planning to run some lengths of chain across the face of my rubber tracks to help with this, but that would have to include putting UHMW Plastic sliders up under the fenders, like I did with my other Conquest when I put the 3/8"x 1.5" bolts through the track holes (which is working very well, actually)

The V-belt idea is very interesting.

I would try it with just one to see if it makes any difference before I tied up the whole thing. If it seems to grab when the tracks are slipping then put, say, three in a row and test if that will move it.

Sounds like a free test anyway. And you could put a piece lengthwise along the track every so often to deter side slipping.

So then Rock, Would that make you a Holy Roller?
Seriously, the angle I would think would work great if it will clear. Teeth could be cut into it too /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ That would provide side bite as well, and if it is too close to the tub, the top could be removed on the inner section till it clears. I like Robbie's idea most for traction, V-belt for simplest solution.

My tracks have plastic angle bars on them. They are about 7 inches long. They are worn out so I'm going to replace with1 1/2 by 2 angle iron. The track has been ground so they fit and are bolted at both ends.

does anyone think something could be fabricated to mount on these tracks in the form of a paddle to give them some sort of swimming/ muding ability? how heavy are the tracks themselves? looks like something can be fastened but i'm not sure what kind of performance and durability you could get. just really interested in people's thoughts and efforts.
