Max II with 24" Tires Video by Brandon - Myspace Video

The new units have an internal muffler. Look at pictures of the rear of the machines and you see the exhaust pipe stick out. Richards sells conversions, but you could also make it yourself. The hole in the tub from the old exhaust exit is blocked off with a plate and new heat shielding is installed around the new internal muffler. Welcome to Richard's Relics Parts for ATV's or go directly to R.I.
With the internal muffler you can put at least 24" tires on.

Richards used to sell mufflers (kits) for around $350, but they have disappeared from the web site????? I would call R.I. and see what they charge. You may also want to do it quickly while they still have them. I heard a rumor that new Max's were going to be powered by Tecumseh motors instead of Briggs. I thought Tecumseh was out of business, but apparently they have started production again. As for the tires....MaxII axles are spaced 25" center to center, that means a true 25" diameter tire will touch the tire beside it.
Some 25" tires are over 25" and some are less. I want the 25" frontiers because of the extra width, 12" vs 10" on the 24s, but there just isn't enough clearanceNow I'm considering stretching my frame to make them fit.

You can put the 24" tires under a max2 and clear the muffler. With room to spare it's a real close on the tub in front and middle. I put a set on last week to try it. You will have to heat your tub though. Truefully. Its not worth it. For an extra 3 quaters of an inch of ground clearance. Save your pennies and but a set of adair tracks for it.
