  • Floatation tires....worth it or not?

I put this under argo beacause i wanted people that have experience with argos to reply. I have to get new tires for my argo and was wondering if it will still float ok without floatation tires? Could i just go out to the tractor place and buy some bar tread tires off the shelf and still float? Any reply will be helpful. Also if anyone has some used tires they want to sell reasonably let me know. I am in MI around hillisdalle. thanks!

It doesn't matter which ATV you have, it will float fine with whatever tires you choose to use, it just might not swim. If the tires do not propel you, you will just sit there and churn water. The term floatation is a little misleading as it doesn't cause the ATV to float.

Like Mike said the type tire you choose will either propel you or just churn water. Next, your choice of tire is more directed at how and where you drive the most. If you plan on staying in the water a lot you could get a trolling motor or small outboard to propel. If you plan on mudding you need a good mudding tire or you may find yourself pushing or being towed. A happy medium is what you are looking for, a tire that is descent in water and pulls well in mud. I have the Argo tires on my Avenger and they do well in most conditions. This is my opinion and only my opinion, don't want to get into the..... this tire is better than that one. The Frontier tire is a good tires also. Both are pricey but do a very good job. My opinion only.

A flotation tire actually means that they "float" across soft ground instead of cutting in.Some trucks have them on the front usually in like a cement truck.Tractors have them for working soft ground .

6X6's will float with no tires on. Most tires on rims will float. The old "flotation" tires are lighter with nearly equal displacement, so they float slightly better.

You might also consider how soft the tire you want is. You may find the ride a bit uncomfortable if the tires are too hard.
