So I got a set of Carlise AT 101 Chevron Tires after... they are 21x11x8. Looks like tracks are meant to be used with 22" tires..... will hey work with my 21"s or will I have to modify the tracks somehow?

Tire sizes will often vary a great deal from the diameter printed on the sidewall. I'm not familiar with the typical diameters of Carlisle 101's but if I were you, I would try them out to see how much slack you actually have. Or at least measure the circumference of the tires and calculate the actual diameter when inflated at different pressures from 2-5 PSI.

Someone else who actually has some track experience may be able to help you further

I would appreciate input from track owners on tires that work well in a track. I have my feelers out for good used tires (8" rims, 20-22" used runnamucks, rawhides, chevrons, etc.) but I have been wondering a great deal about getting some knobby golf cart tires and using them. With my bad track record of used tires slipping the bead, I am almost wondering if a lower quality (in terms of swimming and durability) tire, but new, might give me less down time than decent quality used tires of the favored variety. One time I saw an argo owner who just put those 35 dollar knobbies all around, and his feeling was that for trails they were just fine. I could not imagine trying to skid steer on them!

Are these tires garbage for swimming?

I run 8 Kenda K472 tires (21x11x8) on my Conquest with factory rims & haven't had any problems. They are a Chevron style tread so they bite in the slick stuff & they will swim. I was able to put my 13" Argo tracks on them last winter. I ran them about 10 hours without any problems. The tracks weren't any hard to mount than then were on my old Runamuks (basically both are a pain). - Ozzy
