Just like Beeman is showing. You want the tires to scoop water so have the tire with the v aiming in the scooping direction.

Some thing that MightymaxIV and myself have both learned when using tires that were originally designed for --> atv's , is that what applies to a tire that was designed for an amphib does not always apply to a tire that was designed for an atv. Most atv tires do not have a V- shaped pattern or a pattern like Argo designed for maximum swim speed. Most atv tires do though have a curved outer lug that is designed to help them pull out of rutts. A very good examply of this is the High lifter ' Outlaw tire'. This is the best swimming atv tire made, but because of the large ,curved lugs on the outer edges of this tire it is also the worst choice for a skid steer machine. These tires work better when facing forward in the traction position because the outer curved lugs scoop the water. MightyMaxIV and myself have also found out that because of the more aggressive tread design on an atv tire, you need to place the middle atv tire facing backwards. This helps minimize the water turbulance caused by facing all of the atv tires foward. We have found that facing mudbugs, super swamp fox's, gator's ,vampires, ----> forward , backward, forward gives the best water speed for most atv tires.

I agree w/Mudbug3, the > < > position has worked best on my machines. Every machine varies by weight, loading, driver experience, etc., so there may be a few machines that this rule does not apply to.
Years of experience with amphibs of various makes me still this this is the best set up.
