  • What pressure...How many sections?

Running two Argo 8x8 Responses with the plastic tracks
What tire pressure is recommended when using tracks?
I just removed one section on each track and installed a
    half section in it's place
So I have 34 regular and 1 half section
Tires are at 7 psi and tracks seem to turn freely by hand
and they seem to be fairly tight
Your input please and thank you

From my reading here: (that is: I'm no expert but... )

Measure the diameter of all of your tires at 6 psi.
Put the smallest on the front, then progressively larger from the back. (Your largest will end up in on the second axle from the front.)
    then psi from the front: 5, 7 ,7, 6
You should have 4 to 6 inches of space between the track and tire at the middle when the machine is off the ground.

But if you can easily turn through a few full rotations of the track by hand you have to be close. Well, you are statically, you just need to make sure you have slack enough to allow slip dynamically. (effective tire diameter changes with deflection)

I was just researching this here. This is a great way to confirm.

well 36 links is required but if yours are stretched a bit and running well on the machine and your happy with the performance i would say your fine, i run 36 links and run high pressure to make the tracks tight and the tires a bit skinny'er which the tracks perform much better with

With 35 sections the track was hanging between 6"-8" at center wheels which looked as if they would fall off without even driving anywhere!
Have not tested yet but tracks and wheels turn effortlessly by hand and the slack is around 4" with 34 sections and 1 half section.

That sounds right to me. I have to order me some half sections because mine don't.

To me (with my psuedo-engineer hat on) the effortless thing seems like the ideal goal.
And some slack ta-boot? I think you're golden.

I fought mine last year (hence my research) and kept spinning one tire at the bead. So much I couldn't keep air in it. Come to find out, tracks are waaaaay too tight.

Got one machine fitted with full set of tracks. Today was spent trying to piece together a set of half tracks for second machine.
Had a lot of broken pins and quite a few sections where pins had pulled though plastic. No wonder we had so much trouble last year!
Going to mount half tracks on two rear wheels and see how that works.
