  • Firestone Balloons leaking air

Of the six balloon tires I have on my St/300/D, 5 of them are decent and only 1 holds air for more than one day. The rest of the good tires all leak air out after about a day or two. I am considering swaping new valve stems into them, but does anybody (with more knowledge on these tires than me) have any suggestions as to what I can do to keep my tires from going flat so quickly? There are no obvious punctures or rips and there is minimal cracking in the tread/sidewall so I am not sure exactly where they are losing the air. I was thinking about maybe using the small tubes of 'slime' sealant, but want to check about other possible remedies here before I go and do that.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Martin, the slime would work well......I've used it in the past with success. Swapping the valve stems out can be done as well if need be. Here's the article:

How to replace those pesky valve stems on balloon tires. If you have an older six wheeler this how-to article will come in handy!

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Jeff, that looks like an awesome article. I'll have to give that a try next time I have a second.
