  • New track idea, CHEAPTRAX

Ok, so this set is made with 4" nylon truck straps (nylon webbing) oak or plastic wood track guides that do not have enough shaping to them in this picture, but they do have a 4x4 base, which might give the track enough bite. The base of the track could be made from so many different materials, I don't even know where to start, but it is an inch in depth, 18" wide, and 4 inches laterally in this picture. OK, tear it apart!!!

i like it. Do you think that the nylon webing will be sturdy enough? I think that it is critial to have open areas in the track, at least as wide as the spacing betwene the lateral supports on the insde of the track. It reduces rolling mass there for increases power and most importantly will shed snow/mud/rocks/water on the upstroke so it dosent cavatate in the water or get in a bind by pakcing int too much snow or mud.

I think the 4" straps are incredibly strong, but are easy to cut. I would be afraid of cutting through the straps on rocky ground, but in swampy conditions, or in the snow, you might be on to something.

Thinking out of the box,I like your theory with the right materials and a lot of patience of course its doable, necessity (or lack of funds)is where ideas like this are molded into reality.N.C.T

Glad to see your still thinking. the straps are usually rated around 10,000 lb. Adair older chain is 880lb. Would be easy to screw together. May have to taper tails on the guides to get the wrap around tires. See you in February.
