    Smog,
I am having trouble finding many shots of your machine in those links. I take it your the black sheep of the family up there in Argo land? My brother in law said when he goes up to the cabin, its kinda lonely being the lone Artic Cat in Ski-Doo country.

I was the trail leader/organiser so I had to be everywhere to keep the sheep together. A couple time I even had to go from closing the trail aatv to the first place before the next fork in the trail; passing the 10 argos at screaming full throttle (the max on tracks is good for 25 to 30mph on flat land).

I have the bright red ski coat (snowboard teaching) so I'm always out of the Max, somewhere in the pictures helping others. It's part of the fun when organising rides.

People looking for more pictures of the organised rides made by the sentier6x6 members and surf the threads in this forum (yes, the comments are in French but the pictures are in English....) : http://www.sentier6x6.com/Forum.aspx?forumid=2

Looked like a lot of fun. I thought my max would do about 25 on the tracks, but with my GPS on my last ride I would top out just below 20mph. I have the 29 HP kawasaki in it (50 hours on machine). I got my vacation planned for the end of next week up to the cabin in Denbigh Ontario and taking the MAX IV with me. Can only dream there would be the kind of snow you were plowing through.

yes but your 29hp Kawa will hit the governor at 3400rpm while the 29hp Bandolero engine is unleashed and will keep climbing up to 5500rpm. trust me I was significantly faster than any Argo there including the brand new HDI and a 3900rpm, chip tuned EFI.

so assuming we have the same gearing and same condition belts, same clutches, @ a conservative 4500rpm, I will move 25% faster. Then again, the total rolling diameter is 26" from the top of track to the hard surface (like on the lake) adding another 12% distance-to-rotation ratio over the OEM track setup.

but all of this means nothing in the woods and I would rather have your 29hp kawa with loads of torque at low rpm where we need it. (but it was cool to fly by 10 argo on the lake)

... but before swapping a 29hp kawa, I would try the firefly engine with 55hp @ 6500rpm.... a very easy swap in a Max IV.

so long as you have the HP to pull them i think they would be fine. You can always use a 1" thick board as a jig and a cut off wheel and cut the paddles down...

I am running into a little problem finding identical tracks to build a set of Smogs tracks how much variation in track design do you think would be acceptable. Anybody out there try to mix and match
If you can't make it accurate make it adjustable

                    Hi Smog ,
U made mention of the need for increased bottom end torque with the Bandolero engine. The tracked Argo also has good top speed compared to a standard argo .
After installing a Bando engine in my SSFox First I changed the secondary clutch to give maximum down shift [salisburyclutch red spring with 28 degree ramps ][different for argo ]
Then after test driving I needed to lower the gearing also eg plenty top speed but not enough power in the powder beach sand . I changed my transmission output ratio trans to axle /jack shaft .Add 4 teeth to axle gear . The SSFox now has far better pulling power in the powdered sand and the top speed was only reduced slightly
B4 running pace faster compared to the argo now it is still walking pace faster compared to the argo [1988 6x6 in H gear ]
The administrator Mike has a Bando in a Max 2 and has the original gearing
As we all are aware gearing depends on operating conditions and the vehicle weight etc etc

                    tomo

Now to get some guides made up, then work on smaller tyres..I'll be set...tracks cost me NADDA too btw..

I'm liking this idea a great deal I gotta say this looks like hot ticket item.

What an outstanding looking and appears to be functioning track setup.

I never found any new tracks as cheap as you did so I finally found new tracks that were 120" so I purchased 4 new ones, they were $1,000 for all four I hope they turn out as nice as yours. have you changed your gearing or clutch thanks mark
