  • motorcycle ice screws in adair tracks?

hi folks, just wondering if anyone has tried these in their tracks for traction in icey conditions. went out christmas afternoon for a ride with the new tracks. they are a little slippery in frozen conditions. I had about 4 inches of snow and the tracks worked great in most conditions but icey hills are a problem. just thinking they might give enough traction for the steep stuff. maybe four per grouser. Any thoughts on this??

I would like to see a pic, of the screws that you are thinking of. My only concern is the track with screws hitting the body if the track became slack. good luck

the srews are like the kold kutter ice racing screws, they are 3/4" long course thead, with about a 1/4" hex head 5/16" tall. I was thinking I could rivet like a snowmobile tunnel protecter to the tub, just incase of track slap.

I have them on my supertracks. I've posted pics of my install. Work awesome on black/glare ice on frozen lakes and will tear up your driveway. Mine run on the tracks outside where they would not hit the tub. I spent some time on frozen hills today but couldn't be sure if the screws help in these conditions. My problem was deep snow and steep uphills.

Mine are in supertracks, you can use longer screws in much more substantial plastic.

I have a few different options being shipped to me right now, not sure what is going to be the best option, but I'm looking forward to doing some testing.

Smog sent me a pic of an Adair Track Grouser with 4 Carbide Maxgrip Studs screwed into it. I think they would help on ice, but not on compact snow.
Maybe he will post the pic for you here.

I am going to have to be vague here, totally because I'm not sure what I have coming:
Gold Digger Ice Picks, never seen them before in my life.
Some kind of screw in studs, maybe like the Max Grip Carbides, not sure.
Prototype Ice Cleats, made for the Adair Tracks, but not tested much, as far as I know. These are the ones I'm most interested in, both because they LOOK like they will work, and because of HOW they mount to the tracks.

I should have all these options soon, and may be able to do some testing by late next week, or early the following week (I am at work untill the middle of next week)

We still don't have much snow up here, but it did rain earlier in December, so EVERYTHING has a nice coat of ICE on it, Roads, Trails, ect.

That's the best I can do for now. Not holding out on you, I just don't know yet.

Do the ice cleats go on easy. Will they come off easily. I am getting ready to order the adair kit for my Max from Tim. He did not mention the ice cleats. I would like to run the tracks year round. That's why I ask.

2 bolts through each cleat, very easy on and off. I put one cleat on every 5th grouser. I also put some "Gold Digger" Studs into the Grousers.

That is not a bolt through the cleat, it's just a broke off screw head I put there for the pic.

I ordered a set from adair and they are in the mail. He said my order is the last he had in stock. If ordering I would suggest calling soon.He may have to build/order a set for you.
