Big Tires that Swim Great!!??

Well I'll need to pick it up in Jonesboro which will be a 10 hour drive for me. Jeff the seller of the Hustler is a really nice guy and is storing it for me until I can get free from work to grab it. I spent about two hours in the Max IV today on the lake in open water testing my bilge pump setup. I actually swung the deal for the Hustler while I was on the lake in the Max. I am running a set of Super Terra Grips and am amazed every time I go to the lake or river how fast they are. The Hustler has the same tires so when I get it I plan on videos of both and GPS for speed. Keep your eyes out for a full review in the near future now that the Max is sea worthy.

Those terra are the fastest tire in the water by far. I'm eager to see the outcome.

My bet is that you will do about 4.5 to 5 mph in the terras and about 2 to 3 mph in the "A-T's". Is there anyone who thinks different?

I was taught this trick by Tim (obsessed). I know there is a video of him using this technique in a yellow Argo Bigfoot with AquaToques.

I need some tires for my two Hustler Bigfoots. I would like a 26 or 27 at least 12" wide. The next problem is that I primarily swim with these machines. I have access to about 12,000 acres of ponds, swamp, and property bordering rivers and my Hustlers are the only thing I have that will get me around where I want to go. I have a set of the original 26" terra tires one of my 980s and I am satisfied with there swimming performance but they lack traction in mud and I have a very hard time coming out of the water and going up a bank with them. I would love a set of 26" Super Swamper ASX but of course there not available right now unless I can find a used set. What would you guys do? I had looked into maybe some 27x12x12 regular Super Swamper Vampires but Im not sure how well they will swim compared to a ASX. If anybody has seen Jpswifts youtube video with his asx swampers on his Hustler Bigfoot it looks like it swims very well. I would like to have performance similar to his machine. What have you guys tried that swims well and is available in a size of 26" and up? Whats the next best thing now that the ASX Vampires are unavailable.??

Here are a couple pictures of 28x12x12 Duro Buffalo tires on my Max IV. Figured they qualified as big tires so I placed them in this thread.



They fit very well and ride like a dream at 2.5psi. I had a chance to take them in some gooey mud at the edge of the pond and they work as good as tires can be expected to work. They however DO NOT SWIM. They do have a ton of floatation and the Max was as stable as could be. In fact it was hard to rock it side to side. These are the tires I will be turning down to fit my 980 Hustler to go into Adair tracks. At least then they will swim.

For swimming and swimming only, you can't beat the 26" Goodyear Terra Tires. The Carlisle / Argo Frontier and Avenger tires would come in a close second.

Has anyone experimented with ATV sand tires? They have some NASTY paddles on them, seems like they may swim. If they work it would become a budget alternative in the 22"-24" range tire. Like the Kenda Gecko here, around $50 per rubber.

I would stat away from paddles, many parks do not allow those type of tires. With that big gap between lugs I don't think they would swim well.

There are a few threads on the site where people asked the same thing. They don't swim well at all and offer a horribly bumpy ride. Save your money.
