  • Ballon Flotation Tire cost?

Does anybody know how much used ballon tires cost? And where they can be purchased from ?

The price varies by condition, brand, age, seller, etc. If you need a balloon tire, talk to 6x6World member Amphiman1 because he has stacks and stacks of them in his parts warehouse.

How would this machine need to be different then a present tire machine?

I am only asking because I would really like to help you find or create something that will bring back the balloon tires. I think the increased buoyancy would improve water performance.

Wouldn't this be a switch, and adaptor to go back to balloon tires.

Probably not a cheap machine. The rubber was vulcanized to the rim. But who knows if you search ebay long enough that machine might pop up

Carlisle still makes the chevron tread pattern, but a few years ago they changed the compound and now they ride like an extension of the steel wheel. Even with the cushier compound they didn't come close to the ride the old one-piece units gave. Somewhere I've got an article with pics of the process that Firestone used. If I can find it, I'll scan it and send it to Mike.

Mike's got the Firestone tire manufacturing article up on the Brochures and Lit page if you want to see an overview of how they were made.
