  • foam filled tires opinions please

just wondering what your thoughts are ............... Do you think a foam filled tire would float or would it sink like a rock or would it somewhat float but not as good as air?

This has been discussed in other threads multiple times. Foam ads weight to the tire, not much, but air is still lighter. A runflat type foam would be cool, but I have no idea how you would get the psi correct and it would most likely worsen the ride quality.

I understand and appreciate your response I am not thinking for use on our machines but on a new design. I have been researching and trying to come up with a design with most of the features we all like in a machine. I want to see if I can come up with something easy to buy, over built so it is strong, within the weight range so that it is a good swimmer. I would also like it set up so it could be easily customised. The design I am working on has no chains and could have the option of skid steer or hydro steer incorporated in the same machine so a person could convert to one or the other without having to buy a whole other machine.

I just seen these as I was doing a forum search on foam it looks interesting.this might be good for people running tracks

The only foam filled tires that I have experience with are tires that we had filled to make them thorn proof for our hunting trucks in West Texas. I doubt that they could float, as they added a LOT of weight.

You might check out Staun beadlocks. They are not foam but might work well for floatation, low tire pressure, and keeping the tires on the rim.

          fyi,
The ones I saw were for vehicles but the principle could be used.

over the rough terrain would cause the foam in the tire to crack and start to crumble in spots then the ride is even worse and axles will bend/break. a good heavy duty bead sealer on a clean rim with some good military quality type of slime . is the best least expensive way or if you got the big$ momma. bead lockers and heavy duty low pressure Kevlar tires . try tires and stuff.com
