  • Newbie Track Question

So, I really want a set of Adair tracks but just can't bite that bullet yet.
I've been looking at a set from Richards Relics and TruTrax.com. Tru Trax doesn't have very good pictures on their site, but it looks like they are the same?

Also do I need to have the 5" extensions that Richards Relics sells?

I read alot of the posts on here about the Tru Trax but nobody said how well they did in snow. Any input would be great. I would like to use my machine year around.

If the tracks are 18"wide, you only need the standard 2" extensions.

The TruTrax look to be 12.5" wide according to their site and require no spacers. Just 21 inch tires. They also look to have a much lower profile grouser than the Adair tracks.

The Tru-Tracks I was looking at are only12.5" wide, in which case, you don't need any extensions

Don't buy anything from Richard Clark/Richard's Relics, EVER. You'll end up paying way too much, you won't get good customer service, and you'll pay a lot extra for his "shipping and handling". Many, many new folks to the hobby of AATVs have been burned by him. Find another source (like many of the helpful AATV dealers that people on the site speak highly of) or even keep your eyes out for some used tracks, they're certainly out there.

The tracks sold by Richards Relics are TruTrax. The tracks are one in the same. Both sites sell the tracks for the same amount of money. Lots of folks around here use these tracks in the winter for getting out on the frozen lakes during ice fishing season. They seem to work well for that purpose as lake ice for the most part is flat so no issues in going up hill on a lake other than getting back to shore. Better on the Argo than the Max because no extensions are needed on the Argo = cheaper. They are popular here because TruTrax is local to the Twin Cities Metro where there are a lot of lakes. You can get a little better deal at the factory with cash and carry but not a whole lot after paying local sales tax. Ran these track on a Max in some 12-14" snow and they did well. Worked great on the frozen swamps going up and down hills but nothing really over 14" of snow and terrain was not very hilly. Never got to try them out in the unfrozen swamps. Machine was sold with the tracks and...should a...would a...could a... kept the tracks but alas I did not. If a good pair of these plastic tracks shows up here for a few bills, I will grab them They are not too bad for being a plastic unit unless your running them on a 4 ply tires. 2 ply tires are less stiff in the sidewall and work better with these tracks, meaning less run offs when turning. A lot cheaper than the other tracks out there and it makes for a good starter pair. I posted a video of running in the snow with these tracks on this site someplace so a little searching might find it.

Dang why can't this decision be easy. Im selling a pac rat trailer (hopefully) so maybe ill just sit on the money and maybe save the extra for Adairs but if hunting season shows up before than ill get the tru trax. I just don't wanna end up wasting $1200 when I could have waited and got something that was really good for 2500.

If there is any way to hold off and save up for Adair tracks, do it.

Have you checked with Adair to see if they have any used ones for sale?
