  • Maxxis mudbug tires?

I was wondering if anyone ever used or considered these tires MAXXIS Tires - M962 Mudbug ATV Tires - Cycle Gear. They look like they would swim and dig well. I'm crossed between these and some Executioners KENDA Tires - K538 Executioner ATV Tires - Cycle Gear.

Hi neighbor .There are quiet a few treads about these tires.Do a search on each tire and you will find a lot of info on them.I found that tires unlimited has good prices.I had some executioners on a 4 wheeler that did great but a rough ride.I think the mud bugs would ride better.

The Mud bug tires swim about 2 mph on a light Max II, but barely swim on an Argo 6x6 , Max IV 6x6, or Brushcutter's Hustler 950 that he had. I have the Executioner tires on my Max IV 6x6 right now and they don't swim at all! I have tried the Executioner tires facing forward and backwards with no increase in water speed. I then decided to run two Executioner tires on the front axle facing forward and two Executioner tires on the middle axle facing forward. I then installed two Goodyear Terra tires on the rear axle facing backwards. This tire combination allowed my Max IV to swim across a 90 foot pound in 76 minutes.

Wow, Fred are putting these on your 980? I would keep an eye out for some vampire asx's like swift has, or find another proven tire for your 980. Maybe keep an eye out until the fall and if nothing comes around you could see if people will lend you tires to try in the fall. Even if something swims on a 950, the size up may do differently on your 980. Testing by purchasing is such an expensive form of trial and error. I actually got some Terra Tire's for my Max IV, I am surprised you are looking to replace them.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Yeah Drew, my terra's are working fine, but, I know it will be only a matter of time until i need some, so until then, im just collecting data. I would really love a set of Vampires like Swift has, but they are like "dinosaurs" these days!!

Wow, I'm surprised that the Executioner doesn't swim. Along with the Vampires, 589's and the Terra's, they were my next choice of top tire. But swimming a 96 foot pond in 76 minutes is kinda slow. My Goodyear terras could do that in about 2 minutes or less. I guess im looking for a good swimming and mudding tire.

I thought hydromike has a set of the Kenda Executioners on his 980? I believe Raceone3 has AMS Swampfox Plus on his.. Maybe you can ask them how they swim and their impressions of their tires.

Well, that's on a Max IV, and I don't think any of us actually saw the 76 minute video in its entirety. I'm running the 27x12's on my 980, and they swim. They're a very slow swimmer and really only do that at a pretty low rpm. They're pretty darn good in the mud, and could move a 980 across a 90' pond in less time than it takes to watch a couple episdoes of the Cosby Show. They're not going to even compete with ASXs,TerraGrips or AMS Swamp Fox tires in the water and you might be disappointed with their water speed, but the Kendas will move a 980 through the water. I think it comes down to how much time you spend in water and how important it is to blaze across a body of water. My friends usually wait for my flat Briggs-driven paddle wheel Kendas on the other side of the water hole.

My overall impression of the Kenda Executioner's use on my 980 is that they ride hard, swim poorly and work pretty darn well in most mud situations. If I had the chance to replace all six tires, I'd buy the same tire for that machine. Remember that I can only spin them slowly with the gearing on the 980. The decision to run these tires was really a matter of price. I was able to get them from Dennis Kirk for about $85 each/ shipped. At that time, the ASX and AMS tires were running about $160 each, if you could even find them (the ASXs...)

Watch some videos of Brian's 980 with the AMSs spun by his Trevor motor. It's an impressive sight....

::EDIT:: If I have the time, I'll try to swap the Titans from the Swamp Fox over to the 980 and see what it does. My bet is that it barely moves in the water. I guess we'll have to see. If it doesn't, we'll chalk the experiment up to "Saving Fred Money".

I like the name of that campaign! It's good to hear that the Executioners do at least swim a little bit. Its also good to know that i can actually fit 27x12's on my 980 also! Thanks Mike!

I have a few more choices of tires to go through, and if you guys don't mind, I (we) would like to hear what you all have to say about them! I'll get back to you shortly!

what's your input on the pro's and con's of these tires?

Here are a few other tires that have caught my eye. Im looking for a good mudding tire that can also swim, but not like a rock or a dolphin with no tail. I believe that because of the tread pattern that the Swamp Fox would be the best out of the group. What is your input?

Mudlites don't swim, so you can delete those form the list.

Kenda bear claws came on the last Hustler 980 that I bought ,and in my opinion they are just about useless in the water if you need water speed. The Kenda Excutioner tires swim very poorly in the water too in my opinion. Great mud tire though for self cleaning and traction.
