helium in tires

I was reading about the 4 wheeler mud boggers that where putting helium in the front tires to make them float better.Has anyone tried this on a 6 or 8 wheeler.

I would think the helium would leak really really easy. How does it leak out of a balloon? lol With the low psi and a lightly sealed bead, a little bit of dirt that would be ok with air may not be with helium.
It has a small molecular structure and will leak through rubber.

These guys where pro mud boggers that put in the helium before the races to help keep the front end up.Not sure how long it would last but would be cool to try.

I was just searching around on google and it will make a car lighter by ounces. Now assuming the 4 larger tires will equal our 6 smaller tires it dont seem like it would be worth it. Just drink one less 16oz beverage before you go out and it would float better I would think. ??? Dont get me wrong though. I would love to see someone do it and find out for sure.

lol, It would be an interesting experiment. One of those things that I wouldnt believe one way or the other unless there is actual proof rather then a bunch of people online saying one thing or another, lol.

Side note, a helium tanker weights more empty then loaded, lol.

Ok some people take that joke to serious, I do understand liquid helium has weight and isnt true.

I would have to say the mudboggers were probably using nitrogen.You can air tire up and set in the sun all day at an event and the tire wont grow(circumference doesnt change).The helium was tried by a tractor pulling friend,he was a little out of his weight class and tried helium,didnt make hardly any difference.

I could throw a bunch of math at this, but in average person terms...
The weight saving would be approximately equal to the weight of a BB.
The water displacement value would be similar to adding a ping pong ball under the machine.
Yea you could call it an advantage if you like to measure ant farts!
Helium would leak thru our tires like screen doors.

Myth buster did a show on this very item. To lift on person the amount of helium balloons is astronomical to lift a small child. So here it is. I would say just from observing the video that the Helium is not much help. I may be wrong but...................seeing the video

Helium is no good. I use nitrogen in my motorcycle tires when i drag race. Come to think of it, have nitrogen in all my vehicles except the "OJ" BRONCO!! The molecules in nitrogen are larger than oxygen molecules. The larger molecules are too big to seep or leak thru the pores of the rubber in the tire, or any other micro orfice of the tire where air can escape. So getting an accurate tire pressure that doesn't fluctuate is what you want when consistency is what makes or breaks you. So like it was stated before, the MudBoggers more than likey used Nitrogen to ensure that they kept the same tire pressure all day long. I suggest putting nitrogen in our tires. You'll have an accurate psi that you won't have to monitor nearly as much.
