I picked up a transmission with some other parts a week or so back, and decided to tear into what I thought was the worse of the two. One of the ends of the bands got tweaked from what I can only assume was a high rpm launch from a dead stop. The end of the band twisted on the band anchor pin (pin didn't nudge) and it wore all of the friction material off, causing the steel band to chew into the drum.
How much time do you think was spent on this machine in this situation to incur this much damage to the drum (rhetorical)? The band material is hard, but not THAT hard....

Another treat, was the discovery of the most bizarre shifter modifcation I've ever seen. I've seen bolts used as pins, but never little thingywhazzits welded to the bottom of (what I assume was) a broken pin. 'Not very hard material, thank goodness. The shift collars seem to be fine.

Aside from needing a reline, a new drum and "back to spec" move on the shifters, the tranny isn't that bad. I expected it to be filled with a quart of lobster bisque, but there was actually fresh(ish) ATF in it.
