What is the best way to clean trans out

Hi guys, looking for the best way to clean out the 1/2 inch of rusty muck from the bottom of my trans, it's a two speed forward with reverse trans. Aluminum case and steel shafts and such.

The first thing that popped into my head is "This is not a sign of a healthy trans". I might even go so far as to pull it apart and see what's going on in there. Would be easy to clean out when it's apart ;-)

I second that! You have to wonder where the rusty muck came from.
