First off: It is a very bad thing to have the band material ALL worn off(in any one spot). That means the metal of the band is riding against the metal of the drum, and it will ruin the expensive drum in very little time. That said, the band material does last a long time, but with no idea of the run time of your machine or the way it was driven...... I would crack open the trans and inspect it.....but that's me.
You could try doing an adjustment first.

Hey Guys,I am having the same problem and have been on the site a couple times already. I have the same question. If the bands are working to brake the side you are pulling back on, and that plunger or whatever that part is called that pulls out farther then the trans case is there really any adjustment left..Or is that a sign that the bands are shot..I tried adjusting it already and I cant seem to get it to where it looks the same as the picture you have where it sits flush with the trans housing..When I pull back it seems to feel different like nothing is there ,I can from a stop pull back hard and it will move to the left a little but once moving does nothing...Would like to fix this soon since the max worked nice last year to clear the snow with the plow.. I kinda got hooked to this thing and wished I had it running right to go and have fun in my flooded field that Sandy left this past week.. Thanks..

If it pulls past the o-ring, very very bad things can happen. It also could be a sign of band wear. Some drivers like to turn one way more than another which would cause the rear band on that side to wear faster than the other. The more the lining wears off, the further the plunger came come out. If the lining is completely gone, very very bad things happen to very expensive parts. I would order a gasket kit from RI and separate the halves and look at the bands just to be safe. You can get them relined or buy new ones.

Luke it sounds like you may have several things going on there. If you had a main shaft seal come out you probably have bad bearings on that side. It's definitely time for a tear down and inspection. If you ran it dry then all four bands will need to be looked at, I don't think the one that protrudes got hot enough to stretch, you would have smelled that, but the lining most likely is gone, or at best, going.DESTRUCTION is just a couple of vowels down the street from DISTRACTION
