I came across a deal on a 20 pony 4-stroke engine and want to jump on it to swap out a 2-cycle in my Attex. I hesitate because the 4-cycle has a 1 7/16" output shaft. From what I've been able to gather from googling, it seems that I need order a Comet 1195 and have it re-bored, or find the older 1190 and do the same. Does this sound right, or is there a better solution I haven't come across? Thanks for any advice

You could turn the shaft down on a lathe. I heard there was a clutch you could get for a 1 7/16" shaft, but it was REDICULOUSLY priced. Over $1000, and that's probably more than the asking price for the engine."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

You could also take a ride to your local junk yard and see if there is an old lawn mower engine (the same brand as yours) that has the size shaft that you need. You would have to do your homework, just a lil, to find out what model engine has that shaft. Lucky, I download the manual to my engine that also showed the specs of the other engines in its family 18-25 hp. I did this with my 23hp Kohler. It had the 1 5/8 shaft (i think,,, it was huge nonetheless), and I found a 18hp vertical on an old rider. I took it off, paid $25 after comparison, and she slid right on in. I didnt have to make any modifications. I figured that I got lucky,,, but hey,, you may get lucky also!!! I won't hurt to look!HUSTLEMANIAC and a HONORARY MEMBER of the
