I think I might need new pucks for my '7000' tranny. I heard that I could replace them with brass pucks ipo the oem material. Does anyone have experience doing this or an opinion whether this would be a good idea. The brass pucks are supposed to last longer, but I don't know for sure. Thanks in advance for any input.

I've used brake material cut to size with a hole saw as well, but I couldn't find the right compound and it didn't grab as well or last half as long as the brass-impregnated material. I think the stuff that works best is clutch lining. The best I've used is from Richard Clark- Please don't tell JP, he'll yell at me. The pucks I got from him are very good but on the pricey side. They last much longer and grab well even when they get wet. It's been a long time, so Grainger or McMaster/Carr may have the right stuff now.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

JPSwift1 - thanks for the referrals... looks like Don already responded below...
Mike - thanks for the info/tip. Did you find Mc/C brake material last long and grab well ???
Don - thanks for the advice. From your reply, looks like clutch lining is the hot tip. No info/opinion on solid brass pucks ???Last edited by Mike; 12-19-2012, 01:08 PM. Reason: merged three consecutive posts. You can just reply to everyone at once by using the multi-quote button

I've never used the solid brass pucks myself- always afraid they'd wear the discs. I'm sure they'd grab well but wonder how they would handle the heat.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
